How Day 2 Test for Fully Vaccinated Amber Country Arrival Works
From 4am Monday 19 July you will not need to quarantine on arrival in England or take a day 8 COVID-19 test, with the exception of those returning from France to England or Wales because of concerns about the Beta variant. If you are coming from other amber list countries, you will be allowed entry long as you
  • have been fully vaccinated under the UK vaccination programme
  • have not been in a red list country in the 10 days before you arrive in England
Fully vaccinated means that you have had your final dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before the date you arrive in England.
You will still need to book a day 2 test to take when you arrive in England. You will need to:
  • declare that you have been fully vaccinated on your passenger locator form
  • show proof of your vaccination status to your carrier (ferry, airline or train) when you travel
Children under the age of 18, who are returning to the UK, and people taking part in formally approved COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials will also be exempt from requirements to quarantine and take the day 8 test. If you are not fully vaccinated under the UK vaccination programme, you will have to quarantine on arrival and take both the day 2 and day 8 tests.
You should follow different guidance if you’ve been in a red list or green list country.
Traffic Light System for International Arrivals

Arrivals will need to take a pre-departure test as well as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on or before day two of their arrival back into the UK – but will not need to quarantine on return (unless they receive a positive result) or take any additional tests

Arrivals will need to quarantine for a period of 10 days and take a pre-departure test, as well as a PCR test on day two and day eight. There will be the option to take an additional test on day five to end self-isolation early

Arrivals will be subject to restrictions currently in place for red list countries which include a 10-day stay in a managed quarantine hotel, pre-departure testing and mandatory PCR testing on day two and eight
